Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
Accent is a local-first application. Everything you create — Bible highlights, notes, study pages, and the files you import — is stored in a single vault file on your own device. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud sync, and no analytics, advertising, or user tracking.
The app contacts the internet only to check for application updates and, if you choose to add Bible translations beyond the built-in ones, to fetch those from a third-party Bible provider.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy explains how the Accent application (“Accent”, “the app”) and the website getaccent.app (“the site”) handle information.
Accent is provided and operated by Davide Di Tommaso (“I”, “me”, “my”), an independent developer and, where applicable, the data controller for personal data processed in connection with the app and site.
You can contact me about privacy at privacy@getaccent.app.
2. The short version
- I do not operate an account system, server, or database for your study data.
- I do not collect analytics, usage statistics, or telemetry, and I do not use advertising or third-party trackers.
- Your vault and preferences stay on your device. I cannot see them and cannot recover them for you.
- The app makes network requests for two purposes: checking for and, when you choose, downloading application updates; and, when you choose to add Bible translations beyond the built-in ones, fetching those from a third-party provider. Some translations may need an internet connection each time you read them, because their licence does not permit permanent offline storage.
3. Information stored on your device
The following is created and kept locally by you. It is not transmitted to me and I have no access to it.
Your vault file (.accent)
You choose where this file lives. It contains your Bible highlights, notes attached to individual verses or to a highlight colour, study pages (rich text and any images, audio, or other files you import into them), your collections and their colours, your last reading position, your selected Bible translation, and settings specific to that vault.
Application preferences
Your interface language and light/dark theme choice are stored in a small configuration file inside your operating system’s standard per-user application data folder. These preferences never leave your device.
Because this data is stored only on your device, moving, copying, backing up, sharing, or deleting it is entirely under your control. If you delete your vault file, its contents are gone — I hold no copy.
4. Information involved when the app connects to the internet
Update checks
When the app starts, and periodically while it is open, it requests a small metadata file from releases.getaccent.app to see whether a newer version exists.
Like any web request, this necessarily discloses your device’s IP address and a basic user-agent string (which typically indicates the app version and your operating system) to the service that answers the request.
This information is used to deliver the appropriate update metadata and, when you choose to update, the corresponding release file. No data from your vault is included.
I do not use update requests to identify you or to build a profile.
The release files and the site are served through Cloudflare, my hosting and content-delivery provider. Cloudflare may process and log standard request data (such as IP address and user-agent) on my behalf for delivery, security, and abuse prevention, in accordance with its applicable policies and terms.
Bible translations
Accent ships with a set of built-in Bible translations. Reading, searching, and navigating those happen entirely on your device; your searches and your reading history are never sent to me or to anyone else.
Accent can also offer additional translations through the YouVersion Platform, a third-party Bible provider operated by YouVersion, Inc.
These are requested from YouVersion only when you choose to use them, and two cases apply:
- Translations you download. When you choose to download a translation, its full text is fetched once and stored on your device, after which it works fully offline like a built-in translation.
- Translations that stay online. Because some publishers’ licences do not permit permanent offline storage, certain translations are not downloaded in full: each passage you open is fetched from YouVersion at the moment you read it, and these translations cannot be read offline.
In both cases, the request goes from your device to YouVersion and, like any web request, discloses your device’s IP address and a basic user-agent string to YouVersion, which handles that data under its own privacy policy.
The request includes only the version identifier and, for online translations, the passage reference needed to return the right text; nothing from your vault — your notes, highlights, study pages, or imported files — is ever sent.
5. The website
getaccent.app is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
I do not set cookies and I do not run analytics or tracking scripts on the site.
The download buttons fetch release metadata from releases.getaccent.app, which involves the same standard request data described in section 4.
Cloudflare, as my CDN and hosting provider, may process and log such request data; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy for information about its own processing.
6. What I do not do
- No user accounts, profiles, or logins.
- No analytics, telemetry, usage tracking, or session recording.
- No crash or diagnostic reports sent to me.
- No advertising, no ad identifiers, and no third-party marketing or tracking SDKs.
- No sale or rental of personal data.
- I do not receive or store your study data.
7. Legal bases (where the GDPR applies)
For the limited request data processed in connection with website delivery and application update checks, I rely on my legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR in operating, securing, maintaining, and distributing the software.
I have considered the limited nature of the data involved and the fact that these requests are necessary for the website and update functionality. I do not use this data for profiling, advertising, or user tracking.
I do not carry out profiling or automated decision-making.
8. Retention
I do not directly store or maintain your study data or other personal data submitted through the app.
Data generated by website and update requests may be temporarily processed and retained by Cloudflare and other infrastructure providers involved in delivering the site and releases. Retention periods depend on the applicable service, configuration, and provider policies.
Your vault and application preferences remain on your device until you delete them.
9. International transfers
Update and website requests are served through Cloudflare’s global network, so a request may be processed in a country outside your country or region.
Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, such transfers are carried out using an applicable legal transfer mechanism or safeguard required by applicable data protection law, such as an adequacy decision, appropriate contractual safeguards, or other lawful mechanisms.
For information about Cloudflare’s own international data transfers and safeguards, please refer to Cloudflare’s privacy policy and applicable data processing terms.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and, where the applicable legal conditions are met, to data portability.
Because your study data lives only on your device, you exercise most control over that data directly by managing, copying, backing up, or deleting your local vault and configuration files.
For request data processed on my behalf by my hosting or infrastructure providers, contact me at privacy@getaccent.app and I will respond as required by applicable law.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
11. Children
Accent is not specifically directed to children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to me, please contact me at privacy@getaccent.app so that I can take appropriate action.
12. Security
Update traffic uses HTTPS.
Your vault is an ordinary file on your device; protect it as you would any personal document, including by using an appropriate device passcode, disk encryption, and secure backups.
I take reasonable measures to secure the services I operate, but no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
I cannot restore lost or corrupted vaults because I do not have a copy of them.
13. Changes to this policy
If I change this policy, I will update the date at the top of this page and post the revised version here.
Material changes will be reflected in the app’s release notes where appropriate.
14. Contact
Questions about this policy or your privacy can be sent to privacy@getaccent.app.
