Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Accent application and the getaccent.app website. Accent is a personal Bible-study tool that runs on your own computer and stores your work in a local file. Please read these terms before installing or using it.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Accent (“the app”) or the website getaccent.app (“the site”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not install or use the app.

The app and site are provided by Davide Di Tommaso (“I”, “me”, “my”), an independent developer operating the Accent project.

2. What Accent is

Accent is an application for personal Bible study. It lets you read and search Scripture, highlight passages, attach notes to verses and to highlight colours, write longer study pages, and organise passages into colour-coded collections.

Your work is saved in a single vault file stored on your device at a location you choose. Accent does not provide an account, server storage, or synchronisation service.

3. Licence to use the app

I grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Accent on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms.

“Your Content” means the notes, study pages, imported files, collection names, and any other material you create or add within the app.

You keep all rights to Your Content. Because Your Content is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to me, I claim no licence over it and have no access to it.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use and import any material you place into a vault, and for keeping your own backups. I am not responsible for any loss, corruption, or deletion of Your Content resulting from your device, storage media, backups, or your use of the app, except to the extent liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

6. Bible texts and third-party materials

Bible translations made available in or through the app are the property of their respective publishers and rights holders and are provided to you for personal study use, subject to the copyright notice and any terms shown in the app for each translation.

You may not extract, redistribute, or commercially exploit a translation’s text beyond what its licence permits.

7. Updates

The app checks whether new versions are available and can install an update when you choose to.

Updated versions are governed by the Terms in force at the time of the update.

I may update, modify, suspend, or discontinue the app, or any part of it. Where reasonably practicable, I will provide advance notice of material changes or discontinuation.

8. Price

Accent is completely free to use. There are no paid features or paid versions. No payment is required to download or use the app.

I may in the future provide optional ways for users to support the development of Accent, such as voluntary donations. Any such support would not be required to access or use the app.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the app and site are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.

I do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from data loss, or that it will meet your particular requirements.

You use the app at your own risk and are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of your vault files.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits any warranty, statutory right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the app or site.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any mandatory rights or remedies available to consumers.

11. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it; your local vault files remain yours.

This licence terminates automatically if you materially breach these Terms.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including sections 5, 6, 9, 10, and 14) will survive.

12. Changes to these Terms

I may update these Terms from time to time. When I do, I will revise the date at the top of this page and post the updated Terms here.

For material changes, I will provide reasonable notice where practicable.

The updated Terms will apply to your use of the app after they take effect.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Italy, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection provisions that may apply in your country of residence.

Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Italy, unless applicable law provides otherwise.

14. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and me regarding the app.

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. My failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.

You may not assign these Terms. I may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
